This post is for to compare Matrix ITA Software vs. Google Flights. For those who work in the travel industry, these are important tools. I was using both tools the other day and noticed differences in prices. Let’s take a look.
Matrix ITA Software is a travel industry software that big companies such as Kayak.com, Orbitz.com use to find airfare. Matrix ITA has its own site, but you cannot purchase airfare from them. Once you find the flight, you must go to the designated airlines to book the flight.
Google Flights is an online flight booking service which facilitates the purchase of airline tickets through third party suppliers. Google Flights bought ITA Software on September 13, 2011.
I was comparing Matrix ITA Software vs. Google Flights the other day and I was getting different results. In essence, they should give the same results if Google Flights bought ITA Software. Google Flights was actuall cheaper. See the pictures below:
I blogged about this earlier when I found flights from LAX to HNL (I believe the price has gone up now). I was still getting different results back then. I do not know why they are different but my friend MileValue.com will investigate. For now, I recommend using Google Flights because it results in cheaper flights.
