In response to fire risks, Hyundai Motor and Kia have announced the recall of more than 91,000 vehicles in the US, advising owners to park outside and away from structures until repairs are completed. The recall includes Hyundai models such as Palisade, Tucson, Sonata, Elantra, and Kona, along with Kia models like Seltos, Soul, and Sportage.

The issue is linked to faulty electronic controllers in the Idle Stop & Go oil pump assembly, which may lead to overheating and potential fire incidents. Both automakers are taking proactive steps to ensure customer safety, with dealerships set to inspect and replace the electric oil pump controller as needed.

Despite reports of thermal events, no accidents or injuries have been reported. Owners who feel unsafe operating their vehicles are advised to reach out to dealerships for assistance, including the provision of rental vehicles during the repair process.

In addition to fire risks, heat damage from the faulty controllers could cause a short circuit that might impact other vehicle controllers, emphasizing the urgency of the recall.

Notifications for the recall will be sent to affected vehicle owners in late September, facilitating timely inspections and repairs. The initiative demonstrates the collaboration between automakers and regulatory bodies to address safety concerns efficiently.

Hyundai and Kia’s commitment to transparency and customer safety is evident, as they work to resolve the issue and restore confidence in their vehicles. This recall serves as a testament to the industry’s dedication to ensuring the overall well-being of customers amidst evolving challenges.
