One of the best values using airline miles for my wife and I is definitely flying from the west coast to Hawaii on points. Living near LAX, we can take a non-stop flight to any of the main Hawaiian islands and be there within 5-6 hours. These flights from the west coast to Hawaii provide excellent value on points because it only costs 25,000 Avios points, which can be transferred from Chase Ultimate Rewards. Availability can be tough at times, but surprisingly there are tons of summer award tickets for this June-August this year.

I remember last year in May, it was quite tough to travel to Hawaii using Avios because there were so few tickets in the summer. However, this year it blows my mind how many award tickets there are traveling from LAX to Hawaii. Some days there are even more than 4 award seats availability, perfect for a family!
The best part about using Avios to book a flight from the west coast to Hawaii is that there are no close-in booking fees. Both American Airlines and United charge $75 for tickets booked within 21 days, but British Airways Avios does not. It’s awesome to know you can book a last minute Hawaii trip with miles and only $5 in taxes. Hawaii on a whim!
You can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards to British Airways Avios to book flights on AA.com. Anything you see at the MilesAAver level on AA.com, you can book on BA.com. I searched a few flights around June and July.

HNL-LAX award availability non-stop for 4 people!
Once you find 2 dates in green, head over to Ba.com and search those exact dates, be sure to select “Book with Avios”. The tickets should price out at 25,000 Avios and $5 per person!

25,000 Avios and $5 for a roundtrip ticket to Hawaii!
Here’s some availability for LAX-OGG (Maui), my favorite place to visit in the world (for now). Tickets are running for $800+ this summer per person, so paying 25,000 Avios and $5 is a total steal!

I booked a last minute trip to Maui next month because my Chase Ultimate Rewards balance is climbing back up and my wife has summer break. I thought it was kind of crazy to go to Maui a few months after Bora Bora, but oh well! It gets up to 110F around where I live, so by the time summer rolls around, I’ll really appreciate a nice Hawaii beach vacation. We decided to do more of a budget trip this time by staying at an AirBnB with friends.
Will you be going from the west coast to Hawaii on points and miles this summer?
