Here’s another tradition in posting our year in review for points and miles spent in 2015. Here are my stats for 2013 and 2014. It was another great year of traveling on points and miles with careful planning and strategic redemptions. I went to places, like Costa Rica and Puerto Vallarta, where I would never think about going if it weren’t for a good deal. Below is what I spent this year for my travels:
Points | Cash | Awards |
75,000 | $12 | 2 Delta One-way tickets LAX-LIR (Costa Rica) |
30,000 | $220 | 4 Nights at Andaz Papagayo, 1 night free annual cert, 2 nights 7,500 points + $100 |
35,000 | $50 | 2 United One-way tickets LIR-SAL-LAX |
42,500 | $460 | 2 Virgin Atlantic LAX-LHR Premium Economy Tickets |

Here’s what it looks like on a map (Hawaii was from a 2014 redemption):
2015 Travels
2015 was probably a lighter travel year than previous years, but still a great year. I redeemed about 772,000 points/miles compared to 1.3 million last year. I feel incredibly blessed to go to all these places and not spend a ton of money thanks to points and miles. I write this to inspire others and to show that with careful planning and using points you can travel to places you would never go to. Even though I’ve experienced other countries and cultures, I’m incredibly grateful to live in sunny southern California with my wife and dog. I’m not sure how much longer we can do this as we’re forced to become “more responsible adults”, but we can try. To another great year in 2016!
Good bye 2015, hello 2016!
